"Almost all of the people in Canada are immigrants. Most of them have good intentions in mind when
coming to this country. Immigrants try to adopt a new identity in hope that this will enable them to
succeed in the future."

if you wish to email us your cover letter and resume in MS Word format click here.

European-Canadian Directory is run entirely by volunteers. At this very time we depend on volunteers to provide content and help us manage the system. We hope that in very near future we will be able to pay for your time and efort. We need your help to create something amazing! We have created a system with many simple to use administrator interfaces in order to enable both technical and non-technical folks to participate with little (or no) training.

For students and recent graduates, it is a great way to get involved in an area where you may have relatively minimal work experience or qualifications. It also gives you the opportunity to give back to the community, meet new people and learn lots of new skills.

You don't need any formal qualifications.

We accept European (and other) nationalities and ages, from 18 years upwards.

Stay with us from as little as 2 weeks to as long as one, two or more years - you choose your dates and duration!

Everyone is welcome on our programme, whether gap year, undergraduate, graduate, working - or even retired! From 18 years-old upwards and from anywhere in the Canada, European Union and/or North America and/or other part of world.

You don't need to speak the English language but you do need a spirit of adventure and a sense of humour.

Participation in our programme makes an impressive entry on your Resume/CV (Curriculum Vita) and you can make a difference. You will have unique opportunities to work with people, and to experience a different culture. You will never forget your time with us. Remember that although you may not receive any pay, the work that you do and the skills that you learn are just as important as if you were being paid and look great on your Resume/CV (Curriculum Vita).

Type of work:

There are many opportunities ranging from working in an administrative or commercial capacity such as Promotion & Public Relations to practical work such as environmental field projects, campaigning, fundraising or shop-work. Some volunteering opportunities require people to offer individual support to groups or people such as those with illnesses or disabilities.

Becoming a volunteer:

Think about what it is you want from the volunteering experience.
- a sense of personal fulfilment?
- an opportunity to ‘give something back’?
- involvement in the community?
- the chance to meet new people?
- to acquire new skills?
- the opportunity to explore new areas of work; test out suitability and commitment before making career decisions?
- necessary pre-course experience?
- enhancing your Resume/CV?

Don’t be surprised if your reasons are partly altruistic and partly self-beneficial. We are well aware that volunteers need to gain something for themselves from the experience.

What can you offer?

(1) Personal qualities - projects seeking volunteers tend to value enthusiasm, new ideas and hard work more than specific skills. People skills — cheerfulness, patience and understanding — are most important.

(2) Expertise - particular abilities will always be welcomed. Some projects appeal to those with practical or technical skills. Teaching, advisory and counselling activities demand high levels of communication skills. Being able to drive could be a useful asset.

(3) Affinity - support for a cause, concern for a special project or group of people or sharing the aims, objectives and values of a specific goal could lend support to your desire to be a volunteer.

(4) Time, commitment, energy, financial matters - how much time can you realistically spare? Some voluntary projects may only need you on an ‘as and when available’ basis. Others, particularly when working in a supporting or teaching capacity or when specific training is offered, will look for regular and sustained involvement. You may need to agree a mutual trial period with us.
